International Trends and Services

 The Links, Incorporated - National International Trends and Services facet has three primary goals:

  • To promote international programs that provide humanitarian outreach (health care, education and basic human needs);

  • Advocacy on behalf of people from developing nations of African descent; and

  • Global awareness among youth.

 The International Trends and Services (ITS) facet of the Washington (DC) chapter of The Links, Incorporated is committed to realizing these goals locally, particularly with respect to increasing global awareness among youth.  To accomplish this, in 2013 the ITS facet implemented the Links International Affairs and Business Empowerment for Youth (L.I.F.E.) Program.  Working with Benjamin Banneker Academic High School in Washington DC, the chapter members selected highly accomplished freshman students with interests in global careers.  Since then, the facet has met monthly with the students – providing programming focused on international exchange programs, educational opportunities and scholarships, foreign and global careers, and international entrepreneurship.  During 2017-2019 program years, the students enjoyed presentations by a variety of speakers, including the 24th Director General of the United States Foreign Service, former ambassadors to the Republic of Nigeria and Brunei, and the former Deputy Assistant Inspector General of the Department of State.

 The L.I.F.E. program was awarded 2nd Place-Single Facet Program at the 41st National Assembly and was recognized for “Best Practice” at the 2019 Eastern Area conference.
